Over the past few years, the unthinkable happened. What was once a rich, thriving faith for me—a long-held belief that sustained me during bleak moments and heart-wrenching trials—eroded and decayed until nothing remained but a black hole of bitterness and pain.
I lost my faith in thrifting.
I could remember a time when just entering a thrift store filled me with joy, hope, and promise. But something changed. Too many dashed thrifting dreams and unanswered thrifting prayers turned me cold and angry. I longed for the fullness and happiness the old days of thrifting had brought.
I’ve wanted a jean jacket for such a long time, and was too stubborn to pay full price. It just seemed like the sort of thing I should be able to find at a thrift store. So I searched, and waited, and got frustrated over and over when I couldn’t find anything I liked. I blame Utah. The thrift stores here are disappointing. (If anyone has suggestions, please let me know, because DI has broken my heart too many times.)
And finally! Success! After many fruitless shopping trips, I managed to find one that was just what I was looking for. My thrifting faith has been restored, and now I’m practically itching to hit up a thrift store again. All it takes is that one good find to get you back on the wagon. I’ve missed good thrifting.
And I know we’re all thinking it, so let’s just get down to brass tacks. Can a girl—nay, a grown adult woman—resist the urge to get her twirl on when wearing a pleated skirt?
The answer is no. No, she cannot.
Jacket: thrifted (!!!muchrejoicing!!!) // Top: Walmart // Skirt: c/o Chicwish // Tights: c/o We Love Colors // Boots: Gift // Belt: came with a different skirt
Have you had any great thrifting finds recently? If you live in Utah Valley, will you share your thrifting secrets with me? Because DI is just not cutting it for me.
I just found the jean jacket of my dreams last weekend at the Gap for 40% off. I'm sure I've been looking for at least a year now. I'm so glad we're achieving these big goals finally. Hahaha
ReplyDeleteGood find! Sorry no tips on thrifting in Utah, except check to see if you have a Savers near you. That place is the best.
ReplyDeleteNice work!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteI found a really nice watch to wear as I lost my good watch at the beach
ReplyDeleteits nice enough but not as good as my original watch :( please check out my blog its new http://maybemayhemmakeup.blogspot.com.au/
There is nothing better than the perfect fit of a jean jacket! As far as thrifting goes I know that Mandi from Vintage Revivals is always talking about shops in Utah so if you haven't checked her out it might be worth it!
ReplyDeleteIf Utah is bad for thrifting, never move here. DI is like one of our UT vacation essentials. The thrift stores in NY have always been good to me. Soo... if you're ever there visiting... umm...my parents... Check them out.
ReplyDeleteI mostly just love that you blame Utah for your thrifty empty-handedness. The state is totally to blame. ha.
ReplyDeleteBut I do love this entire look. I have a jean jacket that i have been rocking since I was in High School. The reason there aren't any at the thrift store is that we keep them FOREVER>
The poo poo surprise is honestly my favorite kid quote of all time. Hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI'm kicking myself now for getting rid of the jean jacket I had in high school. And it's totally Utah! Thrift stores here are awful.
ReplyDeleteYou are adorable. I like Uptown Cheapskate for a slightly more adult version of Plato's Closet. They have stores in Murray, Bountiful, and downtown SLC.
ReplyDeleteLove the tights and skirt combo! I used to love thrifting but I haven't been in sooo long. I was just thinking how I need to get back into it. I am a cheapie when it comes to buying clothes :)
ReplyDeleteOh boy, that was hilarious! I agree, that should be a regular post.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why I'm just now reading this but I cannot stop laughing. I can't wait to read the other part of this series. I love that child! He is such a comedian!!!
