Sweetest Ever Crochet Baby Top

Good morning all, it’s Girl Who Cried Wolf here. I know I’ve mentioned many a ‘favorite’ crochet project in the past . . . Forrest’s baby blanket was my favorite, my sidewalk shawl was my favorite, my granny ripple sofa blanket was my favorite, my stripey ami giraffe was my favorite. I cannot be trusted when I call something a favorite—I’ve done it before, I’ll do it again, and no, I will never be able to actually select just one favorite.

But this little bit of crochet cuteness? This might be my new favorite.

Sweetest little crochet baby sweater! www.maybematilda.com

!!!!!!!!!FAVORITE!!!!!!!

As much as I love crochet, I really have a hard time finding clothing patterns that I love. Knitting definitely takes the cake when it comes to clothing (such disloyalty to my craft!). But while I was searching for sweaters I could make for Darcy recently (because she is too small to refuse to wear the things I make her, unlike some other children who will not be named), I fell hard for this one. It’s the Drawstring Halter pattern from Holland Designs, and I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a girly little top to crochet. Really well-written and easy to follow with beautiful results, and there’s an option to add long sleeves for winter wear. (They don’t know me, by the way, and I paid for the pattern—this isn’t sponsored in any way. I really do 100% love the pattern and think it’s fantastic!)

Sweet crochet baby top! www.maybematilda.com

I love everything about the finished top. The gorgeous stitch pattern, the contrasting ribbon woven through the neckline, the scalloped hem. Love love love.

Love. How many times can I use this word in one post?

One more, at least: love.

Gorgeous crochet baby top!

I used Lion Brand LB Collection Cotton Bamboo Yarn in Gardenia for this top and (you’ll never guess) love it so much, too. It’s dreamily soft and comfortable for the little peanut, has a nice drape, the stitches stand out wonderfully, the color is drool-worthy, and I think the cotton content will keep it cool and breathable through the spring and summer months. It was the perfect yarn for this project.

Mustard crochet baby top

I cannot get over the beautiful yellow. As much fun as pink and purple are for Darcy, I also love having some items in her closet that aren’t the typical girly colors. (I think my favorite color on her, weirdly enough, is navy blue. She always looks so adorable in it!) I love that this top, with its delicate stitch pattern and scallops and ribbon tie, still looks so feminine and sweet, even in a non-traditional color for a girl like mustard with a brown tie.

New favorite crochet project. At least until my next favorite comes along.

  3. I can't... there's just too much cuteness in this post! Both baby and sweater are adorable - and I agree that yellow was the perfect color :)

  8. So cute!!! I'm jealous of your crochet skills. The last time I tried, I made a big knot and that's about it!!

  9. That's just ridiculous cute wearing ridiculous cute. I'll have to try the pattern myself :-)

  10. So cute! I really love this pattern. You could easily layer it over a long-sleeved white bodysuit so she could wear it in cooler months.

  11. Ok so I'm going to use the word of this post (too much Sesame street here, sorry!) LOVE! Love it. The color, the fit, the style... and most of all your cutie patootie baby in it! LOVE!

  12. Very precious. And the top is adorable as well. I'm much older than you Matilda/Rachel, so I'm storing these patterns for a future granddaughter. Also, I love your color choice. She's obviously a girl! And girls can wear any color! Beautiful top for the spring & summer. Love your blog, by the way.

  13. I have yet to succumb to a "real" diaper bag but I think I'm headed that way soon. I am still trying to find one I love.

  14. Hey, everybody starts somewhere! I made an awful lot of terrible things before I crocheted anything cute.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Thank you! I haven't tried layering it yet, but I think it would look great that way.

  16. Thanks Samantha! And there's no such thing as too much Sesame Street (one of the few kids shows that doesn't drive me up the wall).

  17. Thanks ChiWei! It was such a fun pattern to make.

  18. Thanks Michelle! I wondered if I should go with a more typical baby girl color, but I love how it looks in the yellow.

  19. For "not having it together", when you DO have it together, you look great!

Those are some REALLY cute diaper bags... and I could use one in the future!

  20. That bag is gorgeous! I love shopping at Walmart and you are way too pretty to worry about looking like any stereotypical Walmart shopper (which around here is EVERY mom)

  21. Such a cute bag! I'll be putting this on my registry!

  24. I love their bags! My baby has so much stuff we seem to need even for short outings, and I like to pack my wristlet and camera bag in the diaper bag, so I have been on the lookout for the "perfect" large trendy bag that can function as purse/diaper bag/camera bag all at once.

  25. Your baby is the cutest ever! Looks so much like you :)

  26. Thank you so much! I'm so excited anytime someone says she looks like me--I've always been jealous of Jeff when everyone says Forrest looks like him :-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. She really does though! She has your eye shape definitely. I have 4 girls and one boy and they all look like me, except one of the girls looks (and acts) exactly like my husband! So he likes that at least one looks like him! Two of the girls we have are twins, and even they both look like me, lol!

  28. Just to clarify, the "neck layer" does not grow twice as fast, it is simply the lowest part of your hairline so it touches your shoulders first, therefore gives the illusion of it growing faster.

  29. it is so beautifull ,i ask my hairdresser to do it this way but it is not even close like this :(.
I have to let it gro again,i try to fasten it whit the olive oil method.

  30. Wow, your look great for both pixie and bob! :) I also have had my pixie cut since 2004 and tried many times to have long(er) hair again..., but never worked :(.
The last time I tried so hard to have long hair was last year but My curly and thin hair looked messy and I lost my confidence ( especially in hot and humid in Thailand.).
Reading your lines inspires me to have long hair again ... :)))))

  31. i love to read your blog.
its very interesting and entertaining. keep posting :)

  32. I know this post is older (I just came across it on Pinterest!), but even now, reading this has been so helpful and has made me feel so much better about my haircut!
I first went pixie last August and have trimmed it a couple times to keep it short, but I'm currently growing it out and the "mullet" is driving me NUTS! Sadly, I do not have a regular stylist (I'm a college student so I get trims when I have the time/money...basically not routine) so sometimes it gets a little lengthy and does its own thing. Since my hair is also curly, some days it looks, as my friend described it, "like a 12-year-old skater boy whose hair flips out around his hat." Not such a great thing :/ BUT right now the front is about the length yours is in the photo of your A-line step of the process, and I honestly don't know why I haven't looked up different styles for growing out pixie sooner. I think that is just the cut I need right now, as it will give me more styling options, look neater/cuter, and will get the heck off my neck (especially with summer coming up)!
So, thanks again for the post and the pictures! You really rock the pixie/short look and have some great tips! :]

  33. I know this post is really old, but I have to tell you a little story: I had pinned a picture from Pinterest about 6-8 months ago of a really cute style that I wanted to aspire to. I too have a short pixie that I have had for about 5 years. I love every bit of it but it is time for a change. I will undoubtedly go back one day, but for now, I am growing it out. Anyway, I was looking for more ideas today as I am going to get it trimmed (after about 4 months of no cutting) to get some shape to it and what do I stumble across? I found another picture that was cute (and different from the original I posted) and when I went to the source, it was your blog! I am glad that this source was available to read because I can relate to everything you wrote. So, I have now pinned your blog post so you get full credit of this great tale. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

  34. I got my first pixie crop yesterday. I love this post a lot. I love short hair and had short bobs and stuff but this is my first time pixie, so I'm kind of nervous :) i'm lucky that my hair grows fast so it will be probably 5-6months for my hair to be longer. This is how it looks now, :)

  35. So... I cut my long hair into an asymmetrical "Frankie Sandford" - long, chin length one side, finger cut on the other. I love it...just like it... and hate it! It has only been a week, but I miss my ponytail! I have become obsessed with it! I look in every mirror, and if there is no mirror I go and look for one. I hate getting out of the shower with a wet head - feels so weird. And then I have no idea what to use on it, or how to blow it. I agonize styling it. I always wore my hair up in a bun - day after day - in a bun at the top of my head. I had long hair, but it wasn't glorious, beautiful, perfect hair. It was time for a change and I thought it over for almost a year. I went for a consult with a great hairdresser and she cut it perfect - but it's so hard for me to get used to. My husband said he loves it, everyone else said it was "cute", but I got really upset when my prior hairdresser saw it and all she said was "WOW", (that's why she's my ex-hairdresser - I would have NEVER trusted her to do this cut!). Well... she planted a seed of doubt in me nonetheless. Now I am a little insecure about it. Some people don't say anything at all - I wonder what that means? Maybe I am just being to critical, too vain.
I have been on the internet looking for a blog where someone feels the same way. Trying to find someone to make me feel okay about it - ANYONE! I'm a little freaked out with the short side mostly. I am worried - already - about how in the world it is going to grow out. The awkward stages. I actually ordered a hair growth treatment conditioner! I am so glad to have found your post... you have enlightened me! I never comment on any blogs, but you really made me feel better. I guess I should just give it a chance to grow on me... but, while it grows on me I think I am going to grow it back. Sad thing is I don't want to let anyone know I am having a hard time with it.... they might just say, "I told you so!". BTW... you look great with any style hair! It's only hair...right?

  38. This blog saved my life. I almost had a heart attack in the past few weeks, thanks to my hideous duck tail. Yes, Im dramatic. I have yet to cut it, because every stylist I know likes to get all scissor happy. I dont like paying women to make matters worse. BUT. . . I have no choice.
Once I saw this page and the pixie growth timeline Matilda created -- Hallelujah!! She gave me hope that everything would be ok in months.
Not to say I didnt love my pixie. I decided to randomly cut it short like Emma Watson did. I adored it. I felt exactly how Matilda said she did. I felt empowered, strong, beautiful, sexy, daring, and sophisticated. More than I ever had in my life. I felt like a woman! For the first time in my life, I cut my hair FOR MYSELF. NOT FOR A GUY. I didnt care if anyone liked it. Because I loved it. I looked around one day and realized every single girl had long hair. Its so common and boring (in my current opinion.) I wanted to do something drastic and crazy to feel different for a while. My hair is bipolar though. I have changed it every few months for years. Its been every color imaginable, and now every length. But still very healthy!
I am now at the Bieber stage as Matilda calls it.
I want it to become a short choppy cut ending right under my chin. I dont think I want to grow it out too long for quite some time. I should reach my goal sometime in the near future. 6 months maybe. I dont use my flat iron much now, but I need to start. I use a ton of Bumble and Bumble products. (Not all at once.) Theyre my fave. If you all have short cuts that are getting a tad crazy I strongly suggest using Sumotech by them. Its a hair paste and gets rid of the hairs that flip and poke out without all the grease and crunchy stuff.
So anyways, Im done rambling. Thank you for this blog..you look great, and so does your hair - at every length! (:

  42. Hello i am from California I am so happy to let the whole word know how this powerful spell caster saved my marriage. Everything was going down the drain as my husband can not stop cheating on me with other women. It became used to always heating on me. I tried to make him stop, but I couldn't help the situation, the more I tried, the harder it becomes. At times we will fight and go apart for some months and we will come back again just because of our kids. One day a friend told me about this spell caster who helped her too, his name is Dr.Ekpiku, she said he uses white magic spells to solve spiritual problems. I decided to give it a try, I contacted him and he told me it will take just 2 to 3 days and I will see great changes in my husband. He actually cast a spell, believe me after 2 to 3 days of the spell, my husband was confessing different names of woman he has slept with. He begged for forgiveness and never to try it again. From that day till now, my mind is at rest. My husband dislike every other women on earth except me. And am so happy to have him for myself alone. The spell caster’s contact is ekpikuspellhomeofgrace@gmail.com

  43. I absolutely love this length in the picture with the headband! I did have a question though! Do you have very fine hair or thicker hair? I have superfine hair and would love to get it cut short, but before I do I would love to know if someone else had this cut with similar hair to mine. Also did you use just a paddle brush or a round brush to dry it?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks, Allison! I asked my hairdresser once how she would describe my hair, and she said 'a medium amount of fine hair.'

As for what brush I used, I'm fairly sure it was a round brush.

    Hope that helps!

  45. Thank you for sharing this because I am going to cut my hair to the red lipstick picture (grown out pixie look)...I used to have hair past my bra strap and used it as my safety blanket, thinking, "long hair = beauty." I had an abusive ex hubby that thought short hair meant ugly & UN-feminine! F&%$ that! My hair is right below my ears & I have decided to go for the grown out pixie look thanks to you sharing your journey!! I am excited! And, yes, there is no where to hide now, and I like it!!!!

  46. Good luck, I bet it will look amazing on you!

  47. Oh man I needed this! Hubby asked me nicely to grow my hair back out from my pixie. I only had it for a month and I loved how easy it was but I also love it long so here we go.. right now Im in the Bieber stage, ack! the mullet my gawd the mullet!! I try my best to style it, thinking IM going to have to ask my stylist to trim it a-line style thank you!

  48. Such an awkward stage, but the good news is it will pass by pretty quickly! Good luck!
