This quilt began as a gift for a little toddler friend until her mother mentioned that she planned to sew her little girl a birthday quilt--I can't compete with a quilt stitched with a mother's love :-) 
I thought the butterflies were perfect for such a spunky kid . . . she's so active, funny, and bright, and I wanted to represent that here. The butterflies are raw-edge appliqued, which means they'll fray slightly around the edges over time, which will make it look even more cozy and loved.
