Crochet Baby Blanket :: Ruffles and Dots

I just finished up my first "big" crochet project--a sweet little baby blanket (which is why I'm not really sure if it can be called a big project . . . but it's the biggest I've attempted so far) and I love it!

I saw this blanket over at Tales from Cuckoo Land a few weeks ago and just couldn't get it out of my head--I love how it's feminine (but not too feminine), cutesy (but not too cutesy), ruffly (but not too ruffly) . . . it's perfect.

So I made a version of it using her tutorial and instructions and I'm crazy about it. And Forrest took it for a test run and gave it two drooly-slime-covered thumbs up! I hadn't even considered this beforehand, but he had so much fun playing with the little bobble stitches--it was a good stitch to use for a baby blanket! (You can see more pictures [and, idunno, buy it] right over here in my etsy shop.)

(EDITED: I've written a FAQ post about this blanket HERE! Check it out if you have any questions.)
And we've been having such gorgeous weather lately, we couldn't just go right back inside after taking the baby-trial-run pictures! You can't waste perfect weather like this, especially since I know it'll only be a few weeks before we're swimming through 300% humidity (why, Iowa, why?).

Can you believe I ever put clothes on this kid? I love the chubby little man-boobs and poochy tummy.

  2. Haha! I came to post a comment and found that my sweet sis-in-law had the same idea!! :). (Love you, Katie!)

I looping your sweet baby blanket and am so adding this to my growing list of baby items to crochet! Your baby boy is simply a-DORABLE! I feel the same way about Mamie babies. I live nothing more than to see my sweet little Emma with her cute bare belly wiggling to and fro!

  10. What a beautiful baby and that blanket- love it. Super cute. I clicked on the link to see if I'd be able to make one myself but I think it's a little advanced for me. I've only ever crocheted super simple scarves with just the basic chain stitch! Great job!

  13. What a cute blanket! Great job...and I'm the same way with my little one. I send out monthly pictures to our family, and when I sent out March's pictures, I realized that he was naked (just sporting' a diaper) in about 95% of them! I promised them that we do have enough money for clothes, we just opted not to dress him...:)

  28. The blanket and baby are GORGEOUS! I wish I still had a baby to crochet for, my kids are growing too fast! I have been a beginner crochet-er for 20 years, this makes me want to start a project. I usually crochet dish cloths because it's something I can actually start and finish. Also, thankyou for stopping by my blog and taking precious time to comment. It's so encouraging!

  55. This blanket is BEAUTIFUL! I am pregnant and want to make this for my baby boy :-)
I looked at the tutorial on Tales from Cuckoo Land, and wanted to know if you did the same spacing as her for the bobbles? If not, what spacing did you use (at the beginning of each row and between bobbles)? Did you make any changes to her tutorial?
One more question- how much yarn, and what weight did you use?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I absolutely LOVE this blanket!! I have to make one for a new baby due to arrive in a few months. Can you please let me know what yarn you used (and hook size)? Thank you so much!
