Simple and Pretty Christmas Gift Wrapping

Are you done with your Christmas shopping and/or Christmas handmade gift-making yet? I can hardly believe I’m saying this, but—with 114 hours to spare before the big day—I think I might be finished! This is definitely a new record for me . . . the majority of my Christmas gift purchasing usually takes places between 7 and 10 PM on Christmas Eve, and I do sometimes have to wrestle with the other last-minute shoppers to get my hands on the last Tickle Me Elmo. And that was before I had a kid.

I have just one more handmade gift to finish up (oh my goodness, I can hardly wait to take pictures and post it—you’re gonna freak, it’s that awesome), but other than that, I’m finished and the gifts are even wrapped and ready to go. For possibly the first time ever, I actually put some effort into the wrapping of said gifts, too. That means no wrapping paper with dogs in scarves and ice skates, or half a roll of Scotch tape holding each one closed, or names scribbled in Sharpie. Am I going to pretend that blog post potential had nothing to do with my decision to wrap gifts prettily this year? No, I am not. At least 70% of my gift-wrap choices were done with a blog post in mind, and I’m not sure if that’s something I should act ashamed of or not. So I won’t.

DSC_0525-1 Okay, really—seriously—how cute are they? (Answer: super cute.) I was inspired by quite a few adorable gift wrap images on my Pinterest Christmas board—I love simply wrapped, country-looking gifts. I picked up a roll of plain brown paper and used materials I already had to wrap all my gifts this year, and I have to say, I think they look so sweet. And I’m quite pleased with myself, thank you very much.

DSC_0526-1 I used scrap yarn to add pom-poms to a few gifts (which, ironically, do not contain crocheted items), and combined ribbon and twine to make more manly-looking packages. (Ew.  Manly-looking packages. Should I edit that out? This is a family blog.) (Also, I’m foreseeing the inevitable comment here . . . no, I did not misspell “Jeffry.” It really is one “e” short, much to the chagrin of every other Jeffrey I know who is very bothered by that spelling. My brother even called me after he received our wedding invitation in the mail to point out that I’d spelled Jeff’s name wrong.)

DSC_0527-1 And little scallop-y circles cut from old books (purchased here and intended for a paper Christmas garland that I never got around to making) add a little extra interest to a few gifts. I used a cute little stamp set I bought at Joann a few years ago (on sale for $1.50!) to add recipients’ names and messages.

DSC_0528-1 The gift on the right up there is my favorite—I’m a little sad it’ll be torn apart on Christmas morning, actually. Isn’t it adorable?

You may notice that there are an awful lot of gifts for Jeff and no gifts for me under the tree. I know, I’m concerned about it, too. There actually aren’t any gifts for Forrest under the tree yet, either . . . if anyone has suggestions on how to wrap a miniature lawn mower, let me know. I’m envisioning about 3 yards of brown paper wadded around it, held together by at least 50 feet of tape. Either that, or just wheeling it under the tree on Christmas morning. I’ll probably go with that one.

  2. Just whatever you do about the lawn mower, don't wrap any tissue paper around it because then he'll get really excited about playing with the tissue paper and forget all about the way cooler and more expensive toy that's inside of the tissue paper. At least, that's what usually happens to me :)

I don't have any presents under the tree yet either... Santa better deliver!

  4. I love these and how they all match. I use brown paper and twine almost ever year - this year though was just whatever I had left over. We're moving a few days after Christmas - so I'm wrapping with what I don't want to pack.

  6. Your wrapping is super adorable! The pom poms are so sweet. I on the other hand am still trying to use up the "ice skating dogs" so that I can do something this cute next year when we finally get our first tree. (someone please remind me of this when I see the 80% off polar bear wrap after christmas!)

  7. Ah, I love it! They look so pretty under your tree. And of course you have a crocheted tree skirt. I love the scalloped circles-- such a great touch!

  8. This came out looking so sweet--I love the hand stamped look to the names (and so much more clever than my lazy solution to use the name-brand gift boxes they give you at the store.)

  9. Manly-looking packages, ha! You don't have to edit that out - I write a blog about gift wrapping and I think it's helpful to have man-appropriate gift wrap ideas, even if they're worded a little funny. Great work here!

  10. I'm glad you gave me a hint but those are some SUPER cute manly packages.

Don't worry, you're not alone on the lack of presents under the tree. Get with it husbands!

  12. WHat? YOur like done and everything is wrapped? I can honestly say I don't even have one single gift ready to be wrapped yet.

These past few weeks have been...busy....and I"m going to need a miracle to have gifts ready for Christmas let alone wrapped.

Hummm....maybe I should be working on them instead of sitting here watching the Office and reading blogs....
