Stripes + Silly Blogging

Today is one of those days where this blogging stuff feels a little silly.

Case in point: these photos for this post.

If I didn’t say anything about them, you’d probably think I got all gussied up and went out and did something hip and exciting like the cool young thing I am. But in reality, as you know if you are a frequent reader, I’m more of an octogenarian in a 20-something-year old body and of course I didn’t do anything cool while wearing this.

( ^ resting b*tch face. I’m a sufferer. Is there medication for this?)

Prep yoself for the following real-life glamour:

9:15 PM – realized I needed photos for this post, but obviously too dark
7:00 the next morning – got fancied up for absolutely no reason beyond getting photos
8:15 – put kids in car
8:17 – drove to empty parking lot
8:22 – quickly and embarrassedly took pictures with tripod and remote while children whined in the car
8:22-8:29 – glanced around awkwardly and pretended I was taking pictures of trees in the distance whenever someone drove by
8:30 – drove back home and changed outfits

See? Silly.

But when you have brand new awesome striped skinnies, you must dress them up and blog about them, even if it involves a rather ridiculous morning of getting fancied up for absolutely no reason, right? Right? It seems I had no choice. And this sort of thing has made me wonder how often other bloggers are doing exactly this sort of thing—staging something just for the sake of a post, but not admitting it? Maybe we’re all just sitting at home eating cereal in our pajamas all day, setting up cutesy little scenes to instagram, pretending we’re leading lives of glamour and excitement? If Jeff and I can manage to get out of the house sans kidlets this weekend for our anniversary, maybe I’ll wear this, just so this post doesn’t feel so silly. There. Post justified!

Anyhoo, I’m a stripes sort of girl, through and through. Striped shirts, striped scarves, striped dresses, I’m in. And as of this post, I’m on board with striped pants, too. #TeamStripes all the way, baby. Which spring trends are you loving? It's time for a trend show-down! 1. Bahaha this cracks me up! You look beautiful! I'm so glad you got up early, got fancy, and let the kids whine. Worth it!

  2. I could NEV - VER take pix of myself in public like this! I feel silly enough doing it in the privacy of my own home. Love the outfit and especially the pants. Don't have anything stylish lined up for Spring since I am living my life in Hooterville :-( Dressing up here for the ultimate people of Walmart makes ME look like the freak. PS - I continue to be impressed by your photo skills!

  4. You have awesome photography skills and hide the remote well! I always thought you somehow got Jeff to take all your pics and had magic skills in keeping your clothes free of kid stains. Love your style pics! And, wow, your hair grows fast!

  8. Haha! Definitely no magic stain-free skills, but if you learn any magic tricks, pass them my way ;-) Jeff takes some of them for me, but I kind of prefer taking them alone (less embarrassing!).

  9. I love that you are so honest here I have held myself back from blogging for years because I'm so self conscious! But you showed me you can be embarrassed & still come out with some great shots! Love your work, girl :)

  12. I bet you most of the other bloggers do the same thing, or at least change their clothes a bunch of times so they can get a week full of shots in one day. You're just the only one cool enough to admit it!
You know I don't ever take pictures of myself, but I've definitely done it with the kids before.
