Thursday Snapshots

(Have you entered the Lily Jade giveaway yet? If not, go and do. These bags are unreal. Believe me, you want one. Go on now. I’ll wait for you.)

This week’s been a little hectic thus far—sick Forrest, then sick mom, then sick dad, and all fingers and toes are crossed that there’s not a sick Darcy in our future—and I don’t know how this keeps happening, but every day starts with, “Hmm, not much to do today,” and ends with “oh crap how am I going to finish all of these extremely important things by tomorrow?!”

But you know what’s nice about instagram? (EVERYTHING. Everything is nice about Instagram, says the insta-addict. If you wanna, you can find me HERE, @maybematilda.) It makes everything look so serene and slow and laidback. I like that. So I’m taking a moment today and enjoying these little insta snapshots of serene (not), slow (ha), laidback (*snort*) life.

1. If I didn’t know better, I’d suspect that witchcraft was involved in Forrest somehow, miraculously, against all odds, taking this awesome picture of me and Darcy. I love it so much, and I want to frame it somewhere. I truly don’t know how it happened—I handed Forrest the phone and somehow this shot emerged. Book your photo session today! Photoz by Goobz. He’ll beautifully capture your wedding, family, or newborn, all with the convenience of mama’s cell phone. Payment accepted in the forms of cookies and Avengers action figures.

2. This kid is an exercise in extremes. He’s either extremely awesome or extremely obnoxious, and there is rarely any activity in the middle of the spectrum. After a week or so of being a total ass, he’s back to being extremely sweet this week. JUST LOOK AT HIM.

3. Forrest requested I take this picture because he made his bed all by himself for the first time ever, plus (bonus!) got himself dressed. Getting so big, I can’t believe it, and all that jazz.

4. I’m planning a family room makeover (will one of you do me a solid and convince Jeff that yes, we need a new couch, even though our current one is in perfect shape? weirdly enough, he doesn’t believe me) and one thing I really wanted for the room was a rustic wood arrow to hang on the wall. And maybe you won’t be crazy impressed by this, but I’m extremely pleased with myself for building this all by my big girl self. I don’t do power tools. This may have been, I don’t know, the 5th time I’ve ever touched a saw, and quite frankly, I’m shocked I still have all my fingers after attempting this. But look at that, I built myself an arrow and survived to tell the tale! And since my mom wants one too, maybe I’ll take a few pictures and see if I can pull together something that makes sense and vaguely resembles instructions in case you’re into that sorta thang. As long as we’re all clear on one point: I have no idea what I’m doing (<—this statement could apply to me and virtually everything I do).

And we’ll wrap it up with The World’s Most Pleasant Child in just one example of her Extreme Pleasantness:

Blindfolded self. Didn’t mind.

  2. I'm having a tough time focusing on the good parts of toddler-hood because OMG the tantrums. Some days I want to run away.

  3. Thank you ma'am! Next thing you know I'll be building kitchen carts and farmhouse tables and vertical gardens like some cool people I know.

  4. Um, yes. Forrest is doing better now, but the terrible twos hit our house HARD. I put him in daycare 2 mornings a week when he was at his worst and it was a complete lifesaver!

  5. I love this. There's always more to say about a photo than is aesthetically pleasing on Instagram. :)
