Closet Confidence

Once upon a time, long long ago when I was just a wee little teenager, some friends from church and I went on an overnight road trip together. We spent weeks excitedly planning our little trip, counting down the days, giddy over traveling together. My mom took me shopping to pick out a new outfit for the trip, and I was thrilled with my choice--a hot pink turtleneck (always the height of fashion over here) (it was the 90s) (obviously). The day of our road trip finally arrived and we took off. Let me tell you, a bitty sedan packed to the brim with teenaged girls is fun . . . and gets pretty uncomfortable, awfully fast. It got warm. Very warm. And it's barely an exaggeration to say that I spent probably 97% of the road trip worrying about the sweat trickles I could feel dripping down my sides, and agonizing over what was going on under the arms of that hot pink turtleneck, and trying to sneak peeks at the sweat marks rapidly forming on my (cool! new! hot pink!!!!) sweater, and feeling mortified as I sensed them growing ever larger. I bet it would have been a really fun trip if I hadn't spent almost the entire time fretting over how sweaty I felt (and looked, I'm sure).

Needless to say, I can't recall ever wearing the infamous hot pink turtleneck again after that day.

(Is it awkward in here yet? Tell me I'm not the only one who's had an experience like this . . . )

Ever since that embarrassing little trip, I've been a bit conscious about what materials will or won't show sweat marks, and I've tried to be careful to avoid ones that will give me hot pink turtleneck PTSD (even when it means saying no to tops I really would have loved to wear).

This shirt, for instance, that you've seen me post about probably a dozen times by now? One of my absolute favorite tops. So comfortable and practical and cute. But I'm always just a liiiiittle bit nervous when I wear it, because this is a fabric I think would really make any sweating very obvious if I were to, say, spend 8 hours in a sedan with a pack of teenaged girls. I truly hope never to find myself in that situation ever again.

Dress and Top: Walmart (dress is from last year) // Shoes: c/o LuLu*s // Hat: Smith's Marketplace

But since this is a bit of an awkward topic, and one that I suspect (and secretly, evilly, selfishly hope) we've all quietly struggled with, I wanted to let you in on an option to help you handle it and use it to your advantage with a chance to win a $1000 gift card.

Although I've heard of Certain Dri, this has been my first time using it. It's the #1 doctor recommended antiperspirant for excessive perspiration, and is the most effective antiperspirant you can buy without a prescription. And their Protection System covers you day and night with both an AM and PM product to give you 72 hours of sweat and odor protection with each application, so you can feel confident wearing whatever you want without worrying about sweat marks (HOT PINK TURTLENECKS FOR EVERYONE!!!). And I've been happy with it so far--no worries when I've been wearing this favorite shirt of mine. Which of course means I've worn it for something like 4 days straight. (Maybe this isn't such a good thing?)

Now for the fun part. The part where the embarrassing sweaty memories of your past will fade away as you finally use them for your gain. The Certain Dri Closet Full of Confidence Giveaway. From June 5th through June 26th, enter on Certain Dri's Facebook page to be entered to win a $1,000 gift card to EasyClosets to be put towards a custom designed closet to hang all the new clothes you now have the confidence to wear (and the winner also will receive Certain Dri products)! Learn more about the giveaway and enter to win here. That is a goooooood prize, people. (And in the meantime, while you wait to find out if you're the lucky winner, Certain Dri products can be purchased in mass market retailers nationwide such as Walmart, Rite Aid, CVS, Target, as well as online retailers and at www.certaindri.com.)

And please comfort me in my social sweating embarrassment by telling me I'm not alone here. Has something like my hot pink turtleneck situation ever happened to you?

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of CERTAIN DRI®. The opinions and text are all mine.

  1. Oh my gosh, that has totally happened to me!!!! Most recently, about a year ago I was in a musical and forgot to put deodorant on beforehand (I'm totally a nervous-sweat type person...), so right before we started I was backstage scrounging around for something, anything, to help me out and ended up dusting foot powder under my armpits! It totally worked, FYI. =)

  3. Ha! Well thank you! I always wonder if I look like a giant idiot, so this is helpful information ;-) I bet you don't look nearly as idiotic as you feel.

  4. Is there any part of being a teenager that isn't awkward?

  5. Haha brilliant post, it made me chuckle! I am slightly sad to admit this is a problem I encounter still (I'm now 27!) because I live in Dubai and it's stupidly hot in the summer! It's over 40oc here now. So I am constantly thinking about what tops will show my "moisture loss". I will keep an eye out for these products here.
