Crochet Baby Blanket :: Stripes and Zig Zags

I was planning to take a teaser picture of this blanket and keep you in suspense as I worked on it, but, well, I'm lazy, so I didn't. I've never been good at surprises anyway--I usually end up opening my birthday presents days before my birthday because I won't stop pestering Jeff to tell me what they are. So forget about any sort of suspense; I probably would have spoiled it anyway with a comment like, "You'll never guess what I'm working on . . .  A BLANKET! IT'S A BABY BLANKET! HERE'S THE WHOLE THING!"
Baby blanket numero dos! My first crochet blanket was this ruffles and dots one that I was so in love with, so blanket #2 really had a lot to live up to. I spent days searching through blanket patterns, waiting for one to really pop out (if you follow me on Pinterest, maybe you noticed the insane influx of blankets on my crochet page), and finally settled on this one. I was drawn to the texture and variety in the stitches, and I liked the sort of antique-y look.

I'm happy with how it came out, but I'm not sure it's completely my style . . . there's just something about it that I'm not crazy about and I can't quite put my finger on what it is. Maybe it's just because I loved that first blanket a ridiculous amount, so no matter how great the second one is, it can't possibly be as good as the first.

This is also my concern with having more children. I'm hoping that the only thing babies and crochet blankets have in common is adorable snuggliness, not sophomore-slumpiness.
(This blanket is in my etsy shop if you're interested!)

I'll be sharing this blanket at Tatertots and Jello, Craft Envy, and Skip to my Lou!

  15. Pretty sure your quote in the first paragraph is a direct quote that would literally come out of your mouth and probably has before.

  16. I adore this blanket. A lot. Would you mind sharing the name/color/manufacturer of the yarn you used?

    1. It's been quite a while since I made this blanket, but I'm about 90% sure that the yarn I used was Caron One Pound in Soft Sage. I love the Caron One Pound yarns--they're really affordable, but they hold up SO well over time, and the colors are fantastic. And I like that they are sort of a 'stiffer' yarn. I don't like the very drapey, super-soft yarns.
