Iron Birch Coffee Table GIVEAWAY

We have been absolutely thrilled with the beautiful custom furniture and equipment built by Iron Birch for our new office space (check out the full office tour HERE!), and I'm so excited to be giving away a coffee table to one lucky winner!

One of you will receive this gorgeous metal coffee table (well, we're keeping ours, thank you very much, but you'll get one custom built for you, in exactly this design!). It is all metal, so sturdy and durable, and I love the design -- rustic and charming, yet sleek and modern.

Deveren, the owner of Iron Birch, is crazy talented both as a designer and a metal worker -- in addition to the coffee table, he also built our beautiful office sign, Jeff's jaw-dropping office desk, and all of our traction equipment.

And to give you a glimpse of some of his other designs, this coffee table was built from a set of vintage drafting drawers, topped with weathered barn wood. I saw this one in person at Deveren's shop, and it is, if possible, even cooler in person.

This dining table is so cool I can hardly come up with an introductory sentence worth of its magnificence. Love it.

Foundation Chiropractic Office Remodel

The last time I mentioned our business, I believe, was when Jeff was opening the doors of his chiropractic clinic at his first location. You can visit an older post HERE to see the before and after pictures of that office renovation.

That office space had enjoyed a previous life as a very colorful tattoo parlor before we took over (seriously, I'm going to have to insist that you go and visit that post to see the before pictures -- they are so worth a click), and we subdued it into a nice little office space.

2 years later, we had the option of renewing our lease, or cutting ties and searching for something new. That office space was a great place to start, but in those 2 years of business we had taken on a few employees, added some new equipment, and really outgrown that space. It was getting awfully tight, and we decided it was time to relocate somewhere a little bigger and a little nicer.

We found a great space just 2 miles away from the first office, and spent the month of October tearing down walls, installing new flooring, and painting in the new space while continuing to see patients in the old office. We opened the doors of the new location in November, and have been so happy with how the office turned out!

I took these pictures right before Christmas and have been procrastinating this post for weeks! Pay no attention to the holiday decor :-)

We decided to go with a rustic industrial vibe in the office, and I have been loving how it all turned out. The tile floor and reception desk/counter were original to the space, and we thought the colors fit in perfectly with what we had in mind. I really wanted a cool wall feature to be the first things people see when entering the office, so we decided on this awesome reclaimed wood accent wall.

Those boards are actual, honest-to-goodness reclaimed barn wood, purchased from a gentleman who has made a retirement job of traveling throughout Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado tearing down old barns. I love all the character and variety in the boards. You can find our barn wood source on facebook -- Barnwood Recyclers.

That amazing sign came out even better than I'd pictured it -- the logo is cut out, and the wood is visible through the letters. It was made by Iron Birch, a local custom metal designer. Deveren, the owner of Iron Birch, made quite a few pieces for the office and they are all showstoppers -- more on them as we head through the office.

Across from the reception area is our waiting room. That beautiful coffee table is another creation from Iron Birch, and I love the clean lines and modern design. I'm tempted to hire Deveren to make another just like it for my living room. I think it would work beautifully with so many different design styles!

This Friday, I'll be giving away one of these coffee tables, so make sure to check back in to enter to win!

To the right of the reception area and waiting room is a small room that we turned into a kids' play area. We used a half door for this space so kids would stay put while their parents are treated, but parents can still see and hear their kids while keeping them contained. It's worked out really well so far.

The adjusting bay is just around the corner from the waiting room. I love how bright it is, thanks to all the big windows. The wall color is new, as are the lovely gray wood floors.

And that brings us into the main office space. For the technique Jeff uses, he needed the majority of the office to be one big, open space. He uses a lot of traction equipment and exercises with patients, and it made the most sense to tear down walls to create a really large open space in the center of the office. We had to rip out and open up a large conference room as well as 4 individual offices to make this open space happen, and it came out awesome!

His traction equipment above was also built by Deveren from Iron Birch, and it's been fantastic! A huge step up from the equipment Jeff was using at the old office.

Since this is such a big space, we were stumped on wall art. How do you decorate such big, long, empty walls without having any art choice look dinky and tiny?

We found these cool vintage anatomical prints, and had them printed up as huge engineers prints, and used spare barn wood from our accent walls to frame them. I think they came out so cool.

I originally had bigger plans for the massage room, which I wasn't able to finish in time before opening our office doors . . . maybe I'll come back to finish it one day. For now, it's a clean, simple space, and I've enjoyed many wonderful massages in here :-)

Heading down the hall, you can get a peek into Jeff's office, where we continued our barnwood accent wall. IT'S SO COOL, I CAN HARDLY STAND IT.

At the last office, Jeff was using the desk I had in my bedroom as a high schooler. It wasn't a bad desk, but it's getting older and didn't fit the style we were going for, so it was definitely time to upgrade him to a big boy desk. This new desk came out AMAZING. I still just gape at it every time I visit the office. So so cool.

This is another Iron Birch masterpiece. We gave Deveren very little direction here (we totally trust his style!) -- I believe the helpful design instructions we gave him were along the lines of, "I dunno, something manly and cool?"

Nailed it.

I'm jealous of Jeff for being able to sit there and use it every day.

Just look at the awesome detail and design here. When I die, I want Deveren to design my coffin.

We've also got an x-ray room, which looks about like every x-ray room you've ever been in, as well as a large corner room that was being used for storage on the day I took pictures, but is now being used by a physical therapist, who we are super excited to have in the office! I'll have to get pictures of his room and add them to this post another day.

I'll wrap this post up with the wintry mountain view out of one of our windows -- our office is on the second floor of the building, so we get amazing mountain views!

Dare to Entertain Link Party (and Simple Painted Table Runner)

Welcome to week 2 of Dare to DIY! This week’s theme is Dare to Entertain, a chance for us to make something to use while throwing a holiday dinner or party. Make sure to check out all my co-hosts’ projects for great inspiration, and add your entertaining DIY project to the link party at the end of this post!

Dare to Entertain

(Festive VW bus place cards via Decor and the Dog, Kraft paper runner and table via Maybe Matilda (TODAY'S HOSTESS), Blue Ball jar snowscapes via NewlyWoodwards, Gilded animal place cards via Primitive and Proper)

I’m keeping things low-key this year. Veeeery low-key. Between a busy 3-year old, a new baby in the house, and a big new business venture (I’ll have a post all about that later this week), I’m definitely feeling very limited in what I can handle these days in terms of both time and energy/sanity. So instead of big grand Pinterest-y projects, I’m keeping things simple and manageable this time around, and it’s suiting me just fine. My goal for this week’s Dare to DIY theme was pretty simple: don’t spend a dime. I thought this theme was a great chance to shop around my house and use things I already have to create a table for a theoretical dinner party. Except I only had two clean plates (ha!) so it’s more of a table for a theoretical . . . Christmas dinner date for two? (ha!) Like I said, time is not on my side these days. Simple it is!

Simple Christmas Table with DIY Painted Runner

Although just about everything I used to put the table together was a DIY project, my real project for this post was the runner. I don’t own a tablecloth or any table runners (except for the Thanksgiving runner I sewed for last year’s Dare to Entertain challenge!), and almost no other ‘entertaining’ type accessories (like pretty napkins or centerpieces, etc.). As previously mentioned, this table does not see many dinner parties. Lots of Ramen and peanut butter sandwiches. No parties. So I wanted to be realistic (and low-key! and free!) and use things I had to create something festive and fun that I can use this year and not worry about. I got out a roll of Kraft paper and got to work painting a simple table runner.

2013-11-26 13.50.48

I just cut a piece of Kraft paper slightly longer than my table and trimmed it to a width that I thought looked about right. Then I found some red paint (Forrest’s red finger paint, actually) and painted polka dots over the whole thing. Forrest wanted in on the action, so we had fun painting together—until he tried to taste the paint. That child is nuts. I like the end result with the runner—it’s simple, it has a bit of a rustic ‘homespun’ look, and it perks up the table a bit without me having to worry about spills or stains on it. It’s just paper, and it’ll get thrown away in a while anyway, so I’ve enjoyed having a bit of a Christmas-y look with no maintenance stress. Not to mention it was free and only took a few minutes to pull together!

DIY Simple Painted Table Runner

I tossed on some fabric-covered posterboard ‘trees’ that I made last year, as well as some ornaments I already had. For the place settings, I dug a few candy canes out of the pantry and added a star ornament. If I were more ambitious, I’d have added a cute name card and tied it all together with some twine or something. Just add that mentally to the picture below. The centerpiece is a favorite of mine—I found that planter box thing at a thrift store years ago, repainted it white, and tossed in some cleaned-out IBC root beer bottles and berry sprigs. It seems to look good no matter where I put it in my house, so it was certainly a few dollars well spent.

Simple Rustic Christmas Table Setting

I’m happy with how my little table came out. It was simple and quick to pull together, and it was kind of fun to peek through my Christmas decorations and see what could work. And the best part is, I didn’t spend any money. I always like not spending money.

Now we want to see YOUR Dare to Entertain projects! One of the links from the link party will be randomly chosen to win this week’s giveaway—50 free Christmas cards from our friends at Tiny Prints! They have so many gorgeous card designs this year, you will LOVE them. Guaranteed!

Here are a few party rules:
1. Up to two links per person.
2. Your post must be ‘entertaining’ related.
3. Please link back to one of the hosts of Dare to DIY.
4. Hop around and visit other links and leave some comment love.

Can’t wait to see what you worked on!

Dress Up a Tabletop with Jaime of Crafty Scrappy Happy!

Do you ever stumble across a blog and become instantly hooked? And you search around for the "follow" button before you've even finished reading the first post? And every time you see a new post, you get all giddy and excited because you know it's just going to be amazing?

That's what Jaime's blog, Crafty Scrappy Happy, is for me, and I'm so happy that she was willing to share a post with you guys over here today! I've kind of felt like she's my little secret up until today, but I guess I'll share her with you. Jaime has the most beautiful cottage-y style home that looks like it came straight out of a magazine, and I love her unique take on DIY and decorating.

So here she is!

Hi!  I am Jaime from Crafty Scrappy Happy and I am SO honored to be here today!  I just adore Rachel and her blog.
Here is a little photo of my project for today:
{A clever way to dress-up a tabletop}
{or any wood surface really}
But first I would love to introduce myself... I am Jaime from Crafty Scrappy Happy.
I am a crazy up-cycling, DIY-er, and girl on a budget.  I LOVE to drool over things that I wish I could spend a million dollars on and then make my own version (or at least attempt to)!  And I love to come up with and try new crafty "techniques" (my project today is one of them!).
If I had to pick my favorite crafty tools I would say---mod podge (I mean what can't you use it for?!?), a hand held sander (I love to distress everything) and encyclopedia paper (I am obsessed...I created a help-group for it awhile back; encyclopedia-paper-arts-and-crafts-addicts-anonymous or EPAACAA (not really) but for real; that stuff shows up in a large amount of my projects and I just adore it!). Here are a few of my past projects . . . I couldn't even tell you how thrilled  I would be if you wanted to stop by and check them out!
Have I mentioned I love making new blog friends?!?!  You can find me at Crafty Scrappy Happy.
~So without further ado here is my project for today~
